RUGBY: HOLLINWOOD continued their fine run of form in the Pennine League with a 36-10 win at Kings Cross Park ‘A’.

Inspired by a man-of-the-match performance from Andy Gorey, the local outfit ran in six tries to climb to fourth in the table.

Gorey scored the try of the match in spectacular fashion after a sustained spell of pressure from Kings Cross.

The former Roughyeds player darted off his own try line, intercepting a pass as the home side looked to score, before sprinting the length of the field to touch down under the posts. He also added the conversion.

Hollinwood, with the pack in dominant form throughout, started brightly and went in front courtesy of an Ian Hunt try, which Gorey goaled.

Gorey added a converted try, before his long-range effort extended the lead to 18-0 at the break.

Peter Davies also displayed a good turn of foot in the second half, side-stepping several players before finding a gap to sprint home from 30 yards. Gorey kicked the extras to virtually seal victory.

The hosts, from Halifax, reduced the arrears with a try of their own, only for Rob Penswick to respond with a score converted this time by Warren Taylor.

A converted effort took Kings Cross into double figures, but Hollinwood had the last say when Taylor chipped the ball from inside his own half for Pete Davies to kick on and then collect for his second try of the afternoon.

Davies added the goal himself for good measure.
