Shock as Khartoum quit league

AMATEUR FOOTBALL: KHARTOUM ‘A’, champions of the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League’s top-flight, have resigned with immediate effect.
A spokesperson for the league said: “Khartoum have resigned their ‘A’ team due to ongoing internal problems and disciplinary issues.
“The ‘B’ team now moves into the Premier Division and will be called Khartoum, starting on the same points as their predecessors.”
Fitton Hill Rangers earned a surprise 3-2 win over Rifle Range Reds in the Premier Division Shield.
The form book pointed towards a second round victory for Rifle, currently fourth in the Jack Abbott Premier Division, at the expense of lowly Rangers.
But P Badby’s brace and a J Akaly strike ensured the underdogs progressed.
They will be joined in the next round by FC Royton, who defeated Chaddy End 3-0.
Top-flight league action saw third-placed Coppice United ‘A’ edge out Khartoum Northern ‘A’ 5-3 thanks in no small part to a Steve Barrow hat-trick.
Basement boys Failsworth Athletic were thumped 7-1 by FC Carsons, for whom Jon Munson pounced four times.
Mark Milner and Rick Street efforts were enough to seal a 2-1 win for FC Broadgate at the expense of High Crompton.
Red Star suffered a 3-2 reverse at the hands of Oddies Athletic, despite goals from Mark Buckley and Micky Booth.
CHADDERTONIANS were beaten 1-0 at home by Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division leaders Bury GSOB.
Failsworth Dynamos were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Rochdale St Clements.
