AMATEUR FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD lost at home for the second week running to increase relegation fears in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.

This time it was Wythenshawe Amateurs who did the damage for Lee McAllister’s side, a goal on the stroke of half time enough to secure maximum points at Ashfield Crescent to make the remaining games nervy ones for Springhead.

And with Hollinwood all but doomed, it could be an unwanted double-header of demotions for our local sides.

By a twist of fate, Springhead and Hollinwood come face-to-face tomorrow at Ashfield Crescent in what could well be a season-defining clash.

Defeat for basement side Hollinwood would surely condemn them to the drop, while a victory for Springhead would significantly boost their chances of remaining in the top flight.

A draw would be of little use to either side.

McAllister reckons that the increasing threat of relegation could be getting to his players.

He added: “This is such a young side and we are probably lacking leaders out there on the pitch, with one or two exceptions.

“A defensive mix-up handed Wythenshawe their goal. I think all-in-all, it was a pretty dour game for the spectators, with very few goalscoring chances.”

It should be a very interesting afternoon at Ashfield Crescent tomorrow.
