RUGBY LEAGUE:
SADDLEWORTH Rangers moved into the top half of the National Conference League’s Premier Division with a 48-22 home triumph over basement boys Wigan St Jude’s last night.
Matt Bottom, Rangers’ man-of-the-match, put the game to bed with two late tries as the contest hung in the balance at Shaw Hall Bank Road.
Touch downs by Jack Brennan and Lars Haigh, answered by a Nathan Jones try and added to by a pair of Michael Coates conversions, had Saddleworth leading 12-4 at half-time.
Loose forward Gareth Morgan produced a hat-trick of tries for the home team after the break, with three scores in response for St Jude’s arriving from David Picton, Dean Hunt and Jones.
Barry Rothwell converted all three for the visitors, Coates doing likewise for Rangers to leave the game poised at 30-22 before Bottom’s late intervention.
