Key clash for St Anne’s

RUGBY LEAGUE:

OLDHAM St Anne’s are counting down to a vital encounter in Division One of the National Conference League.

Mick Cashin’s men visit Castleford Panthers tomorrow, a game featuring two sides still too close to the bottom two relegation places for comfort.

This is Saints’ third away game on the spin, with the previous two matches against Rochdale Mayfield and Milford Marlins both ending in narrow defeats.

However, Cashin reckons his side deserved something better from those games.

He said: “We were only beaten by a handful of points on each occasion, and I thought we merited something at Milford.

“We feel we’re good enough to stay up, but it’s about getting the next win, which I’m sure will come if we keep working hard.”

Cashin will have to do without winger John Kelly, who is nursing a shoulder injury and second row/centre Chris Worth (work commitments).

But prop Andy Sands is back in the fold after two weeks on the sidelines with a foot problem.

WATERHEAD are riding the crest of a wave in Division Two.

A red-hot run, which included victory over second-placed Eastmoor Dragons last weekend, has lifted Garry Highton’s troops to within sight of mid-table.

But they face a tough examination tomorrow, with high-flying Hunslet Warriors, who gave Oldham Roughyeds a run for their money in the Challenge Cup, visiting Peach Road.
