Oldham off-target

NETBALL: A POOR shot completion rate in the third quarter cost Oldham dear as they slumped to a 43-41 defeat at local rivals Tameside in the Northern League.
Despite a strong show in defence — they recorded 13 turnovers in the quarter — the visitors missed 14 attempts at the net as the chance of victory slipped away.
Oldham made a fine start — goal attack Sarah Brennan was in good form — and had nosed ahead by one goal (14-13) at the first break.
The second quarter saw Oldham introduce Kirsty Bloomfield to wing attack and move Harriet Gill to centre.
Player-of-the-match Brennan was again to the fore, completing a 100-per-cent record in the first half, which ended 23-23.
Wing defence Khadeja Pemberton made some great touches and interceptions in the second period, but a series of missed chances at the three-quarter mark was to prove crucial as Oldham were unable to get their noses in front.
