ANGLING:
STEVE Clegg made an instant impression in the first Medlock Bridge AC open match on the park lake.
Drawn on peg eight, the Saints rod came out on top with 9lb 9oz.
He used waggler with bronze maggot on the hook to net 15 chub and four roach, before switching to the 11-metre pole for three chub.
Mick Jewitt (Tight Lines, Shaw), was the runner-up, with the long pole and maggot approach working to the tune of 9lb 7oz.
He landed a two-pound bream and tench, plus lots of roach and rudd, to keep Malc Taylor (Addisons) at bay.
Taylor, in third place, recorded a super net of roach and perch, along with the odd chub, for 9lb 2oz. Three maggots on the hook tempted a few better stamp fish.
PEG one was the place to be in the lastest open match on the Slaithwaite AC lengths of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
Kevin Hartley had the plum draw and, using caster and maggot, he lured good carp and chub, before a switch to pellet tempted plenty of skimmers for a 26lb 13oz tally.
There was then a big drop to next man Dave Topham with a 7lb 4oz net, while Terry Hewitt, in third, had 6lb 5oz.
MIDDLETON-based Steve Hall boasts a super record on Bradshaw Fisheries — and he claimed another win at the venue with chopped worm attracting a 44lb 4oz net of skimmers. Second on the day, Geoff Terry, with a similar net of 25lb.
FORMER Oldhamer Mark Lucas is getting back into the swing of things after a few quiet years.
He won the Blundells Fishery open match with 96lb 6oz of carp on pole-fished pellet. The fish averaged around the 2lb mark.
It was a photo finish as Gar Whalley grabbed second with 96lb 3oz, while Allan Musgrove bagged 76lb 3oz for third place.
