Non-league football: MOSSLEY caretaker manager Gareth McClelland was delighted to see his side earn a 0-0 home draw against Woodley Sports in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

McClelland — who managed Woodley for two years before taking up a scouting role with Chester City — took the job at Seel Park last week after Shaun Higgins resigned.

And he witnessed an instant improvement, with Mossley registering their first clean sheet since January.

McClelland said: “I am happy with the result and particularly the fact we did not concede a goal.

“There is plenty of work to be done. I noticed the players’ fitness dropped in the final 15 minutes of the game.

“But it can't happen overnight and the effort was pleasing.”

TOM Hughes scored a volley from the centre circle in Chadderton’s 3-0 victory at Ashton Town in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One — a carbon copy of Dejan Stankovic’s stunner for Inter Milan in their Champions League defeat to Schalke.
The case of ‘dejan-vu’ came with three minutes of the game remaining to cap a fine performance from Paul Buckley’s men.

The Ashton Town goalkeeper headed the ball a seemingly safe distance away from his penalty box — only for Hughes to smash home.

Hughes had put the visitors in front with a powerful drive after 40 minutes, following a pinpoint cross from James Curley.

Top scorer Curley made it 2-0 just after the hour mark when he curled home a free-kick.

Chadderton are just a point behind third-placed AFC Liverpool, with a game in hand.

OLDHAM Boro slipped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Daisy Hill in the NWCL Division One.
Paul Greenacre gave the visitors the lead after 12 minutes.

Tony Mills’ men pushed for an equaliser, but Keir McNeil gave them a mountain to climb when he doubled the advantage 10 minutes after the restart. Boro sit one-from-bottom in the table.
