TABLE TENNIS:
ST SAVIOURS ‘A’ finally clinched the Oldham Table Tennis League Division Three crown with a tough 7-3 defeat of spirited Unison ‘C’.
Alex Leach was the hero for Saints with three magnificent wins, while Dave Wild was outstanding in securing a brace for Unison.
Saddleworth filled the runners-up spot after a 9-1 defeat of a two-man Unison team and can now look forward to playing at a higher level next season.
Brian Huskinson, of St Saviour’s, won the award for most wins during the season. He notched 64 victories.
The dominant Our Lady’s ‘A’ team will be a force in Division Three next season.
They remained unbeaten with an 8-2 demolition job of Honeywell ‘G’.
Eleven-year-old James Chappell and Matty Kelly have been superb Our Lady’s. James secured 66 wins during the campaign, more than anyone else in the league.
Werneth ‘F’ are hot favourites to join Our Lady’s in Division Three. They require only two points in their final match against bottom team Dobcross to gain promotion.
Coldhurst ‘A’ warmed up for their Handicap Cup final with their biggest win of the season in Division One.
Derek Watmough and Ryan Conway, promoted from the club’s ‘B’ team, both recorded maximums in a 9-1 defeat of BAE ‘B’.
This result almost certainly condemns the BAE team to the drop.
