Taylor claims Cairo AC title with a flourish

MALC Taylor emerged victorious in the Cairo AC Winter League after landing the final match at Denshaw Vale.
The Gilders rod, with a superb net of skimmers, tench, roach and rudd, tipped the scales at 18lb 8oz.
Taylor opted for pole and bronze maggot to deny Matt Corbally (Tight Lines), who had 17lbs 4oz of roach and rudd on the long pole and bronze maggot.
Mick Jewitt, also of Tight Lines, attracted roach and rudd on bronze maggot and the pole for 15lb 2oz.
STEVE “Stan” Buckley topped the latest Todmorden AS match on an impressive Croft Fishery.
He weighed in a 23lb 7oz net, which included mostly carp on the tip and pole.
Peter Fitton, the runner-up, had 16lb on the pole with meat on the hook. Third-best Peter Eastwood bagged 15lb 7oz, which featured a new record for a common carp. He employed the pole and maggot.
MARK Eaton-Dykes came out on top in the Cranberry AC match on Partridge Fisheries’ Ribbon Lake with a 40lbs net.
He had a big net of silvers, carp and ide on the long pole and corn/pellet used tight across.
Steve Eaton-Dykes, in second place, had a similar net to the winner, but was short and long for his 28lbs return.
Organiser Steve Orr (26lbs) was third with his ide and carp catch falling for caster and worm on the long pole.
STEVE Clegg (Saints) made it two out of two in the Medlock Bridge AC open matches on the park lake.
Opting for the waggler, pole and maggot approach, he had 24lbs 4oz of chub, roach, skimmers and tench.
Runner-up Darren Taylor had a 15lbs 11oz catch made up of roach and hybrids on maggot at 13 metres.
Third-best was Martin Taylor, with maggot-tempted chub and roach weighing in at 15lbs 5oz.
CHADDERTON angler John Jones, of Garbolino Elton, is proving just why he was headhunted by the powerful squad.
He managed a second place in the star-studded Brookside open, with pellet and groundbait tactics right across netting 72lbs of carp in the 1lb-2lb region.
He followed up with a fourth-place finish at the same venue with 121lbs of carp.
And Jones made it three pay outs on the trot with a runners-up spot, courtesy of a 119lbs net of carp on pellet.
SANDY Barker spends a lot of time on Copthorne Fisheries and enjoys his fair share of success at the venue.
In a recent open match, he registered an impressive 87lbs of carp to 8lb on the pole and corn in the corner to claim victory.
FORMER British pole champion Paul Selvidge clinched first place in the Meadow View open, thanks to his long and short pole approach with corn and pellet on the hook which lured 69lbs 8oz.
Mick Tighe (Gilders) was first in the Meadow View Fisheries open on the Lark pool.
He recorded a 67lbs 6oz net, which consisted of carp to 8lb on pellet and corn. He also drew the bonus peg,
netting himself a £570 pay-out.
PETE Cunniffe (Gilders) was second-best in the Bradshaw Fisheries open on number six pool with 34lbs of silvers. He was followed by regular winner Steve Hall (29lbs 8oz).
FORMER Oldham rod Mark Lucas was again in the money, with a 86lbs 1oz catch of carp securing first place in the Blundells Fishery open.
Venue Guide
Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Huddersfield end excellent for skimmers, roach and chub. Slaithwaite for chub, bream and carp. Pellet and corn are doing the business on the Saddleworth waters, with carp and chub feeding. Skimmers should be switching on at any time.
Rochdale Canal: Most areas producing good nets. Boarshaw and Slattocks lengths for plenty of skimmers, roach and bream. Tench feeding, with early morning or evening best. Corn and pellet for bream and tench. Bread punch and red maggot for roach and skimmers.
Chadderton Mill Lodge: Fishing as well as ever. Plenty of ide on caster and maggot. Carp showing to banded pellet on the waggler, with fish averaging in the 2lb-4lb mark.
Park Lake: Skimmers, roach and chub falling to the waggler and maggot approach.
