AMATEUR FOOTBALL:
UPPERMILL secured their place in the Huddersfield and District FA Challenge Cup final courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Storthes Hall after extra-time.
Simon Tait’s side face Bay Athletic in the final at Huddersfield’s Galpharm Stadium on Tuesday (7pm kick-off).
Uppermill did it the hard way, coming from 2-0 down after first half efforts from Danny Senior and Alex Slack.
Hall marksman Tom Matthews and skipper Pete Jowett both limped off with injuries and Uppermill looked a different side after the restart.
They reduced the deficit just after the hour mark. Mark Jackson found space down the right flank and his telling delivery was smashed home by skipper Bobby Greenwood.
The equaliser soon followed, with Matt Walton producing an exquisite strike.
Uppermill were now the dominant force, but they did not find a winner until extra-time, when Jackson whipped in the ball from the right and in-form Jake Jacobs headed the ball into the net.
In Division Three, Heyside raced to a 6-0 win against New Mill 94. Ryan Rafferty produced a hat-trick, while James Taylor, Ryan Barnes and James Leonard completed the rout.
Reserves Division Two action saw Heyside make it seven victories in a row after edging out Heywood Irish Centre 3-2.
On the mark were Chris Taylor, Steven Partington and Mark Kingsley.
Diggle ‘A’ lost 3-1 at Wooldale Wanderers.
Trailing 2-0 in the second half, Diggle’s Jason Stone missed a penalty.
Stone did eventually get on the scoresheet, but it was not enough as the home side notched a third goal.
In top-flight league action, Chaddy End climbed to the summit with a 4-2 triumph at Oddies.
On the mark for Chaddy were Kyle Harrop with a double, Shaun Roscoe and Gary Brooks.
They are two points ahead of Royton, with two games in hand.
Basement boys Failsworth Athletic lost 4-0 at home to High Crompton, for whom Nigel Wylie bagged a brace and Jack Shannon and John Keating also netted.
Steve Barrow pounced twice and Danny O’Connell was on target as Coppice United ‘A’ saw off FC Broadgate 3-0.
Carl Beamish scored twice for Red Star in their 2-1 defeat of Fitton Hill Rangers.
