Hardicre buoyed by revival

AMATEUR FOOTBALL:
HOLLINWOOD gave their faint survival hopes a boost courtesy of a thrilling 6-5 home victory over fellow strugglers Prestwich Heys, in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
Gary Brook and Louis Green bagged two goals apiece as Hollinwood made it two wins in a row.
Steve Barrow and Paul Booth were also on the mark.
Fred Hardicre’s side remain rooted to the bottom of the table, 10 points off safety, but will hope the result sparks an unbeaten run until the end of the campaign.
“We have managed to field a settled line-up in the last few games, so it is no coincidence that results have improved,” said Hardicre.
“It is never easy when half the team are aged 19 years or younger, but we are getting there.
“The game against Prestwich Heys was free-flowing from the first whistle.
“Both sides needed points and threw caution to the wind.”
Avro remain in the title hunt following an emphatic 4-0 triumph at Wythenshawe Amateurs.
Phil Brown’s third-placed team trail leaders Manchester Gregorians by five points, but have two games in hand.
Springhead edged out hosts Atherton Town 3-2, but Royton Town slipped to a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Leigh Athletic.
BROADWAY Celtic beat DC United 3-2 in the Rochdale and District Sunday League Alan Haughton Memorial Trophy quarter-final.
Celtic reserves are also through after edging out Talbot Head on penalties, following a 0-0 draw.
Gardeners Arms saw off Rochdalians 3-1 and Copperpot defeated FC Dale 3-2.
THE Manchester Football Association are holding a female-only Level One coaching course at the Manchester Communication Academy on May 9.
The course, for those aged 16 and over, has 19 places and offers you the chance to learn the ins and outs of the professional game.
Entrants will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of football.
There will be lessons in administration, player and coach development and the laws of the game.
Admission costs £100. No previous qualifications are necessary.

ASHTON United Ladies won the Cheshire and Manchester League Division Two West title after a 4-1 triumph over Urmston Meadowside Ladies.
Hayley Hardy scored twice for Ashton, while Helen Smith and Stacey Trueman also netted.
Manager Ian Jones said: “We are extremely proud of the team.”
