Mossley on the rampage

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY roared to a 5-1 win at Prescot Cables in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

Half-an-hour in, Graham Kay blasted home his first goal of the campaign from close range after a Lilywhites corner was not cleared.

Three minutes later Mossley doubled the advantage through Matty Kay, who clipped the ball over goalkeeper Mike Langley from the edge of the box.

Just 60 seconds had passed when the hosts pulled back a goal via a Lee Madin penalty, after a trip on Liam Pearson.

But four minutes before the interval Mike Fish's looping header restored a two-goal cushion for Mossley.

Chris Rowney's cross-shot found its way into the net after the restart to put Gareth McCleland's side firmly in control.

And with time running out, marksman Kristian Dennis produced a neat finish to cap the victory.

McCleland, who missed the game through work commitments arranged prior to his appointment as caretaker boss, said: "I am delighted with the lads.

"Five different goalscorers is always pleasing, and by all accounts they all worked very hard."

CHADDERTON slipped to a 4-3 defeat at Wigan Robin Park in Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.
Three defensive lapses saw the home side race into a 3-0 lead at the break, through strikes from Chris Williams, Steve Williams and Dean Midgeley.

James Curley netted for the visitors from the penalty spot shortly after the restart, only for Ryan Small to curl home for Wigan almost immediately.

Curley smashed in a Gareth Morris cross after an hour and Morris got on the scoresheet with seven minutes remaining after good work from Chris Pauley, but Chadderton could not find a leveller.

Boss Paul Buckley said: "We were the architects of our own downfall, but we must dust ourselves down and go again."
