DARTS: OLDHAM are bang in Lancashire GMC Super Eights Elite League title contention after the latest round of matches.

The town team climbed to second place in the table, three points adrift of leaders Burnley, after an emphatic 8-2 win at Southport.

Man-of-the-match Stuart Holden averaged 86.83 for every three darts thrown in the opening 4-1 victory.

He was one of several Oldham players who produced notable performances on the day.

In game eight, Geoff Tucker trailed his opponent 3-0, before storming back to win 4-3 thanks to 16,17,15 and 18-dart legs. He averaged 80-92.

Eric Plumb also came from behind — he was on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline — to snatch a 4-3 success. Plumb hit two 180s in his average of 80.08.

John Moreton won 4-1 (70.42), which included a 180, and Scott Morris also struck a maximum as he whitewashed his rival 4-0 (80.10).

Other Oldham winners on the day were Dave Rawstron (4-2, 78.02), Mick Kenway (4-2, 73.10) and Dave Yates (4-1, 77.11).

They are next in action on Sunday, May 1, when St Helens visit the Flowerpot (12.30pm).
