TABLE TENNIS: BASEMENT boys Coldhurst ‘A’ are celebrating Division One Cup final success in the Oldham Table Tennis League.
Despite conceding 15 points to Hollinwood ‘B’, Coldhurst were on fire and won by 114 points.
Hollinwood’s Steve Collins (-53), Matt Evans (-37) and Mohammed Sajid (-21) had no answer to outstanding performances by Derek Watmough (48), Paul Howarth (57) and Simon King (8).
Result: Coldhurst ‘A’ 684, Hollinwood ‘B’ 570.
Armed with a 47 points handicap start, Unison ‘A’ overcame Hyde YMCA ‘B’ by 48 points in the Division Two Cup showdown.
Unison’s lead was reduced to 35 points after game five, but this was as close as it got thanks to good performances from the Unison trio of Mike Brierley (12) Alan Auxilly (9) and Andy Hey (-20).
The Hyde team of Steve Hilton (25), Dennis Bradshaw (-5) and Neil Coppard (-21) worked hard in a good, sporting contest.
Result: Hyde YMCA ‘B’ 448, Unison ‘A’ 496.
