Rugby League: OLDHAM St Anne’s enjoyed a handsome 46-20 win at Normanton to secure Division One rugby for next season.
Dane English scored three times and Andy Sands twice as the bottom-of-the-table side were seen off.
David Cookson was first to go over for Saints, and English’s touch down in the corner was accompanied by Kiel Lancashire’s touchline conversion.
Man-of-the-match Eric Johnson and Cookson sent Jon Kelly in, Lancashire converting, and English then crossed for his second.
Martin Pritchard responded for the Knights with a Jacob Crossland-goaled try, before Danny Kay raced 30 metres from dummy-half to go in under the posts. Lancashire added the goal for a 26-6 lead at half-time.
Paul Seal went over for the home team four minutes into the second half, but any hopes they had of a comeback were dashed when Sands stretched out in the tackle for Saints’ sixth try.
Chris Carter was held up over the line, before breaking away from inside his own half to offload to Lancashire, who converted his own try from under the posts.
Scott Hutton claimed a Normanton try on the hour, before English completed his treble with another Lancashire-goaled effort.
There was time for Seal to grab a second, goaled by Crossland, before Sands wrapped up the scoring.
