Captains beaten in photo finish

GOLF: CAPTAINS Martin Lewis and John Knight narrowly missed out on the top prize in Oldham Golf Club’s Invitation day.

Lewis, host club captain, and Knight (Saddleworth) scored 44 Stableford points, but were beaten in a card play-off by Martin Williamson (Oldham) and Mike Hewitt (Stamford).

Third place, also on the card after scoring 44 points, were Oldham’s Sam Gilbet and Dukinfield’s Barry Foster.

And Blackley’s Ian Lowe had a day to remember, holing his tee shot at the 16th.




ANNE Fitton scored 36 Stableford points to win Saddleworth’s spring meeting. Kay Orme was second with 35.
