BOWLS: CHRIS Kewley (Springbank) played a starring role for Greater Manchester women — but ended up on the losing side.
Kewley won 21-10 at Newport in the away leg of Manchester’s game against Shropshire.
She was given fine support by other local players Michelle Renshaw (Werneth), who won 21-14, and Joan Horton (Diggle), who won 21-19.
Oldham RU’s Diane Bowker was unlucky to lose 21-20 as Manchester went down to a 30-chalks defeat.
TONGE registered an excellent 10-4.5 (189-141) victory over a powerful Lower Hopton side in the Manchester Premier League.
Laurence Hallett led the way with a brilliant 21-1 defeat of Graham Hickey, while Darren Griffiths overcame Graeme Wilson 21-16 in the night’s outstanding clash.
Other Tonge winners were Matt Gillies (21-14), Andrew Cairns (21-16), Gary Ellis (21-7), Thomas Dobson (21-7) and Steve Squire (21-17).
