BASEBALL: OLDHAM North Stars strike off their new season this weekend with a home double-header against Bolton Robots of Doom.
The British Baseball Association AA North League fixture takes place at Crompton and Royton School on Sunday (noon start), with two seven-innings games planned to take place over the course of the afternoon.
One of the team's coaches Tony Mayers — whose father Joe played for the famous Oldham Owls in the 1950s — has plans to expand the club's current set-up.
At present, North Stars have a group of around 15 players, of which nine can play in one team.
With the addition of only a few more, there is scope to create an 'A' team, while there are also hopes that youngsters will come along to assist in the creation of a Colts side for ages nine to 14.
Anyone interested in having a go at the sport is invited along to training at Crompton and Royton School, every Wednesday from 6pm.
Alternatively, Tony can be contacted on 07866 535043.
