Ellis takes the prize

BOWLS: GARY Ellis confirmed his status as crown green bowling’s number one player with victory in the one-day Kirkham Classic.

A top-class field of 32 contested the event and it was the Nimble Nook and Tonge star who came out on top to land the £400 first prize.

Ellis defeated Kendal’s Ian Nicholson 21-11 in the final after seeing off the challenges of Chris Cook 21-9 in the last eight and Danny Sillitoe 21-16 in the semi-finals.
