Hardicre looks on the bright side

FOOTBALL: Hollinwood are going down fighting from the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division, following a 4-2 victory at Atherton Town.
Paul Booth struck twice for Fred Hardicre’s relegated side, as did Steve Barrow.
With two games remaining — both of which are against title hopefuls Avro — even maximum points cannot save Hollinwood.
But their recent upturn in form bodes well as they look to return from Division One at the first time of asking next term.
Hardicre said: “The only thing that can save us now is if there is a restructure in the summer and a couple of the clubs in the Premier Division move on to a different league.
“But technically we are relegated and we have to deal with it. The lads have been fantastic.
“They want to stay and we can build on what we already have, with the clear aim of getting promoted next season.”
Avro, who will retain the title should they win both encounters with Hollinwood, won 4-2 against Old Alts (see separate story).
They are two points behind leaders Manchester Gregorians.
Springhead edged out hosts Leigh Athletic 4-3, which came hot on the heels of a 3-2 triumph over Walshaw Sports.
Royton Town lost 3-0 at home to East Manchester, and were also defeated 3-2 at Prestwich Heys.
