NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Boro have set their sights on securing qualification for next season’s FA Cup by beating Atherton Collieries tomorrow (3pm kick-off) in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.
It is the last round of fixtures for this term.
Despite sitting one-from-bottom of the table, Tony Mills’s side will not be relegated because the division is short of teams.
Demotion returns next season because Nelson and Northwich Villa are joining the NWCL Division One, making it a full quota of teams.
The higher a side finishes, the better chance it has of being included in the FA Cup, although clubs’ involvement in the famous competition cannot be confirmed until pre-season.
Darren Scanlon, Lee Bradburn, Connor Ryan, Will Buck, Parker Redmond and Lee Deakin all return for Boro after missing the 3-0 midweek defeat to AFC Liverpool due to work commitments.
CHADDERTON travel to Norton United in NWCL Division One looking to hold on to fourth place in the table.
AFC Liverpool’s superior goal difference means Paul Buckley’s team cannot reach third, but they can be overtaken if they lose and fifth-place Holker Old Boys win.
MOSSLEY travelled to Lancaster City today in Evo-Stik League Division One North.
Manager Gareth McClelland urged his players to prove themselves in this final game of the season, before he embarks on a reshuffle in the summer.
He said: “I am more interested in the performance than the result.
“It is an opportunity for the players to show why they should be here next season.”
Youth team stars Fabio Abreu and Joe Heap were included in the squad, but Michael Oates (hamstring), Daryl Weston (ankle) and Andy Watson (work commitments) were missing.
