DAVE Pegg won the Lowe Trophy, Stamford Golf Club’s first major of the season.

Played in exceptionally-strong winds, the competition saw Pegg maintain control to post a fine nett 69.

Anthony McCluskey was second with 71, ahead of third-placed Adam Harrison (72).

STAMFORD professional Mark Smith has been caddying on the European Tour for his friend Matthew Nixon, the Ashton rising star who is already making an impact at the top level of golf.

Mark’s travels with Nixon have seen him rub shoulders with many of the game’s top players, including world number one Lee Westwood from Worksop.

And a recent visit to the Malaysia Open saw Mark meet up with recent US Masters winner, South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel, who posed for this picture wearing the green jacket he won for his magnificent exploits at Augusta.

OLDHAM’S women golfers enjoyed a winning double at the expense of Worsley and Bolton Lostock.

The bronze team beat Worsley 3-2 with victories from Edythe Turner (5 and 4), Julie Connolly (5 and 4) and Lynn Cotton (3 and 1).

And the same team defeated Lostock 3-2 thanks to the efforts of Turner (3 and 2), Anne Lees (5 and 4) and Cotton (5 and 3).

A Stableford competition at Oldham was won by Chris Pierson with 37 points. Next came Sheila Antrobus (35) and Julia Wild (34).
