THE Oldham and District Golf League has a new format for the 2011 season which gets under way this week.
The traditional ‘A’ (0-14 handicap) and ‘B’ (10-18) sections stand, but each has been split into two divisions with end-of season play-offs involving the top two in each to decide the league winners.
The clubs are split as follows:
East Division: Ashton, Blackley, Crompton and Royton, Dukinfield, Oldham and Werneth.
West Division: Brookdale, Denton, North Manchester, Saddleworth and Stamford.
In the ‘A’ section, the West Division is completed by Fairfield. In the ‘B’ section it is new club Tunshill.
The increase in the number of clubs has also brought about an expanded cup competition.
Brookdale and Crompton and Royton met in a pre-season friendly in memory of Chris Wood, a member at both clubs, who died some years ago from cancer. They played for the ‘Woody Putter’ and Brookdale claimed a 5-0 success.
