LEE Humphries, of GTI Matchman, had a brilliant win in the Friday open match on Brookside Fishery.
After a slow start — he had an almost blank two-and-a-half hours — his peg 11 on the Kingfisher Lake burst into life.
He caught carp in the 2lb to 4lb bracket on maggot in just 10 inches of water across to weigh in an incredible 149lbs 12oz.
He beat a top field, which included at least one England international.
THIRD on Saturday, Fred Prudham went two places better in the Bank Holiday Monday Medlock Bridge AC open on the Park Lake.
He weighed in 18lbs 12oz of roach, chub and skimmers, tempted by maggot on the pole and waggler.
Billy Brierley made the frame again with an 11lbs 5oz net from peg four, where he used the pole to catch a tench and plenty of roach and chub.
Darren Webb fished into a freezing wind for the entire match, but still managed to claim third place with 11lbs 2oz.
He had mostly chub catch enticed by maggot on the waggler cast tight to the bridge.
A master of the waggler and maggot, Prudham weighed in 10lbs 14oz from a windy peg 23 on Saturday. He landed roach, skimmers and chub.
Victory went to Bob Harrison who, using his 10-metre pole with maggot and pellet baits, tipped the scales at 17lbs.
Second was Mark Webb. His peg seven came alive as he switched between the pole and waggler in conjunction with maggot to catch 13lbs 12oz of roach and chub.
GOOD catches were again to the fore in the latest Monarch AC match on the club water.
The winner, Dave Ireland, saw his pole and caster approach pay off to the tune of 19lbs 14oz of skimmers and ide.
Close-up in second was Pete Molloy with a 19lbs 4oz catch, which included chub and ide also fell to the pole.
Eric Hardy had a 13bs 2oz net of skimmers on pole-fished pellet for third place.
DIGGLE AC’s Tuesday evening matches on Tanners Dam start next week and run for 10 weeks.
Draw time 5pm to 5.30pm. with fishing 6pm until dusk.
Tickets are £10 all in on the bank. For further details, contact Ian on 07966 903662.
LEES and Hey AS found the Straight Mile Fishery in good form.
Steve Sharples, using the tip right across with corn and meat netting fish to 4lb, emerged victorious with 38lbs 6oz of carp.
Second-placed Gideon Orr was drawn on the next peg, where he enticed carp on corn and meat for 25lbs 7oz.
Alan Steele, in third place, had a level 23lbs, which was made up of carp to 7lbs 8oz thanks to corn and meat on the tip.
Jack Cubby was fourth, with his pole and worm tactics accounting for 21lbs 10oz, which included an 8lbs 4oz common carp.
JACK Cubby had a good week as he clinched first place in the Cranberry AC match on Partridge Fisheries’ Pine Lake.
He caught f1s, carp, ide and skimmers on chopped worm, caster and maggot up in the water.
Lee Bell, the runner-up, used maggot as bait for 23lb, while Rod Illing was third with 19lb of silvers on maggot fished short.
OLDHAM anglers showed their class in some big open matches over the Bank Holidays, with John Jones (Garbolino) winning the Brookside Fishery match with a fantastic 121lbs of f1s. He used pellet across.
Venue Guide
Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Diggle areas starting to fish, although cold water has slowed things down a little. Further down the canal, carp and chub are feeding. Pellet the best bait.
Rochdale Canal: Remains an underrated water and full of fish. A session on the Castleton length saw a couple of bream and tench. Pellet and bread punch the baits used. At Chadderton and Middleton bread punch and red maggot are catching silvers with the odd tench thrown in.
Chadderton Mill Lodge: Solid. Fish a chuck, with the ide ravenous to anything on the hook. Carp to pellet and paste down the side late on.
Park Lake: Waggler, pole, pellet and maggot are all you need for a great day’s fishing. Day tickets available on the bank.
Strinesdale Reservoir: Tench showing to corn. Skimmers on pole and tip.
