CRICKET: DELPH earned two victories over Golcar at the weekend to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
The first contest, in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership, saw Aaron Lilley produce an unbeaten 126 as Delph, replying to 224 for five, reached their target with four wickets to spare.
Lilley smashed 10 fours and 10 sixes off 70 deliveries.
Grant Jones’ side emerged as victors 24 hours later in the Heavy Woollen Cup second round.
After Golcar posted 207 for nine, Bilal Khiljee made 58 as Delph reached their goal with five wickets in hand.
MICKLEHURST clinched their first win of the campaign with an eight-wicket triumph over Lascelles Hall in the Cedar Court Conference.
Jonny Forrester’s men dismissed their opponents for 174 before easing home.
Forrester top-scored for Micklehurst with 56.
WOODHOUSES climbed to third place in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One after edging past Flowery Field.
Mike Cassidy’s team, replying to the visitors’ 169, won the game by two wickets.
Josh Tolley led the way with 92 for Woodhouses.
MEL Whittle came out of retirement at the age of 64 to play as professional for Carnforth in yesterday's derby game against Netherfield in the Northern League.
The Oldham CC cricket chairman, who hung up his boots last season after taking 100 wickets for Oldham in the CLL, took the only Netherfield wicket as the hosts romped to a nine-wicket win.
Carnforth made 103 after being reduced to none for three inside five overs. That total proved to an easy one for Netherfield despite Whittle's one for 40 from eight overs.
Whittle will play as deputy professional for Carnforth again on Saturday when the club entertain Chorley.
But he has ruled out a comeback for Oldham. Whittle cannot play as an amateur following a game in which he was involved as a professional.
