PRIZE GUY . . . Gary Ellis.
BOWLS: GARY Ellis continued his flying start to the season by winning the RRG Open at Allens Green BC, Radcliffe.
The Nimble Nook and Tonge star, recent winner of the Kirkham Classic, defeated Failsworth’s Lee Lawton 21-11 in the final.
He beat Dave Watters 21-14 in the quarter-finals and Damien Morrison 21-9 in the semis.
Lawton booked his final place with a 21-18 last-eight victory over Clay Flatley and 21-11 semi-final verdict against Mike Geraghty.
TIME is running out to enter this year’s Oldham Evening Chronicle Bowling Handicap.
The competition gets under way on Friday, June 3, so would-be entrants need to act fast to secure a place.
In anticipation of an improved entry, organisers have decided to scrap the previous limit of 64 players.
This year’s competition sees heats being held at four venues on two nights, which means players will be vying for one finals-night place at each green.
Those venues will be Nimble Nook, Crompton, Delph and Royton on Fridays June 3 and June 10.
Entrants will be drawn at the various greens and will pick their own number from the hat.
The finals will be held at North Chadderton Social and Bowling Club on Saturday, July 9, when, for the first time, a dress code will be enforced.
The entry fee is £5. Send the money and details of your name, address, daytime phone number, club and team affiliations and date choice to Bob Nisbet, 11 Severn Road, Hollinwood, Oldham OL 8 3RQ as soon as possible.
