GOLF: TEENAGER Jack Suttie produced a superb display of iron play to equal the Werneth course record.

Jack (18), who started playing golf when he was eight and has been a Werneth member since then, reeled off eight birdies on his way to a round of 61 in Saturday’s monthly medal.

His only bogey on the par-68 course came at the par-four 17th.

Jack’s 61 equalled the previous amateur best set by current club vice-captain Lee Rowbotham in 2003 as a 19-year-old.

Jack, who won Saturday’s competition, has his eyes on a career in golf following the eye-catching progress which has seen his handicap drop to a plus mark of 0.3.

He started the monthly medal off one for a net 60, before the computer swiftly cut his handicap.

STEVE Boyle produced a pair of excellent rounds to claim BROOKDALE’S Spring Cup by a six-shot margin.
Starting off with a solid 71-4-67, Boyle improved to 69-4-65 for a winning total of 132.

John Peace (81-16-65 and 89-16-73=138 total) finished second on a card play-off from John Strachen (77-8-69 and 77-8-69=138 total).

DAVE Audley won the President’s Prize at Oldham after a second-round 65 gave a total of 138.
He was third best on a card play-off on day two, behind Mick Allen and John Waterhouse, who also posted 65s.

Steve Hunt, with 69, had the best nett score in round one, while Allen (64) had the leading nett total in round two.
