Late recovery sees Tonge take spoils

BOWLS: TONGE recovered from a sticky situation to post a fine 12-4 (185-165) victory at Liverpool outfit Richmond in the Manchester Premier League.
They trailed by six chalks with three jacks remaining, but victories from Darren Griffiths (21-17), Simon Coupe (21-12) and Gary Ellis (21-8) swung the verdict their way.
Other winners for Tonge, who host the Lloyd Hotel, Chorlton, on Wednesday (7.30pm) were Andy Cairns (21-16), Jimmy Derby (21-17) and Stuart Mort (21-11).
THERE is plenty of Oldham interest in the Brennan mixed pairs at Norden BC on Sunday (5.30pm).
S Mellor and M Fisher, B Seville and D Fish and R Crossley and C Seville are among 16 pairs aiming to book a place on finals night.
A CHADDERTON League delegates meeting will be held at West End BC on Tuesday (8pm) when entries for the President’s Handicap must be submitted.
GREATER Manchester juniors suffered an eight chalks defeat in their Drakes Pride County Championship match against North Midlands.
They had eight winners in a 225-167 win at the home venue of Stalybridge Rec, but lost 224-158 at Potter Green, Coventry, where Royton Park’s Richard Pertoldi (21-17) was among the winners.
