CRICKET: TOP spot is up for grabs in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League tomorrow.
With high-flying Glodwick putting their feet up, the way is clear for their nearest pursuers to claim the lead role.
Uppermill and Austerlands, second and third respectively, go head to head at Nursery Fields.
After an opening-day blip at Greenfield, ’Mill have strung together four straight wins, including last Sunday’s defeat of St Anne’s in the LCB Cup.
Unbeaten Austerlands are also going great guns, much to the delight of captain Adam Young.
He said: “I’m more than happy as our aim at the start of the season was to be competitive.
“We’ve got a tough game this weekend because, Bamford Fieldhouse aside, Uppermill probably provide the biggest test in the league.”
Professional Humayun Farhat has proved his worth since joining Austerlands — he has already scored two hundreds — and it should be quite a contest against Uppermill’s prolific wicket-taker and fellow pro Imran Aslam.
Droylsden, in fourth, visit Heyside, who are one place below them in the table while Bamford Fieldhouse, conquerors of South Yorkshire side Treeton in the National Knock-out Cup last weekend, go to Shaw.
