Walshaw drew first blood in the fourth minute, when Luke Champan lifted the ball over goalkeeper Lee Mullen.

But marksman Michael Moss gave Phil Haigh’s side a lifeline shortly afterwards courtesy of a deft flick into the top corner from close range.

And Walshaw’s Lee Connell was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Luke Blackman.

Six minutes before the interval Royton were back on level terms as Jamie Peers produced a stunning 25-yard volley.

Walshaw regained their lead through Aaron Nuttall four minutes after the restart.
