HEYSIDE, from the Saddleworth and District Cricket League, suffered a first-round exit in the LCB Cup after rain forced a bowl-out at Farnworth SC.
The Little Hey Street outfit were leading 3-2 with two players to bowl from each side, but ended up succumbing 4-3 to their hosts from the Bolton League.
“These things usually finish 1-0 or 2-1, so to lose by that margin is a bit galling,” said Heyside captain Nick Campbell.
Bamford Fieldhouse also exited to cricket’s equivalent of the penalty shoot-out.
Rain meant no play was possible and Paddy McKeown’s side lost 2-0 at Blackrod, from the Bolton Association.
But Droylsden joined Uppermill in round two after a 2-1 bowl-out win Egerton, who hail from the Bolton League.
SADDLEWORTH defeated Hollinwood by using the new ‘Weathertime System’ on Saturday.
Steven Howard’s side reached a revised target of 148 off 22 overs after rain interrupted play at Well-i-Hole. It was Saddleworth’s first success of the season.
The Oldham Evening Chronicle were not told that the ‘Weathertime System’ was used in this game, and so reported on a Hollinwood win in yesterday’s edition.
