Eight is great for Greenfield

CRICKET: GREENFIELD seconds could only field eight players against Friarmere in Division Two of the Saddlewirth League — but they still managed to secure victory.

An unbeaten 109 from Glyn Partington — he made 90 seven days earlier against Stayley — lifted the Ladhill Lane outfit to 215 for six.

Attempting to limit runs on the biggest ground in the league is no easy task for 11 men let alone eight, but Ashley Dearden’s side rose to the challenge.

Hampered by Josh Lees’ haul of five for 42 Friarmere, who only had 10 players themselves, were restricted to 167 for eight in reply.


FRIENDS enjoyed an easy victory over a depleted Newtonhurst outfit in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance.
Batting first, Friends raced to 223 for six, with Moshin producing an undefeated 107. Their opponents were skittled for 23. Nadeem claimed four for 12.

Hosts Europa Exiles recorded 129 before Foresters took their last wicket.

During the tea interval the rain began to pour. Europa were only able to bowl 29 overs, at the end of which Foresters were on 104 for eight.

The visitors took four points and Europa two.


FAILSWORTH Macedonia earned a home victory over neighbours Springhead in the Site Electrical North Manchester League Division One.
Chasing 148, the hosts reached their target with five wickets to spare.

All other games were abandoned due to rain.
