BOWLS:
GARY ELLIS’S domination of the open handicap scene continued at the weekend when he landed two major events and pocketed £1,200.
Both events – the Rudheath Open at Northwich and the Sowerby Bridge 32 – carried first prizes of £600.
The Nimble Nook and Tonge star trailed 18-14 to Sheffield’s Chris Brown in the Rudheath final, but hit back to win 21-19.
He had beaten Andy Millsom 21-16 in the quarter-finals and Ritchie Goddard 21-18 in the semis.
Victory at Sowerby Bridge was his sixth in eight runnings of the event.
Dominant throughout the day, Ellis beat Wirral’s Robbie Fitzpatrick 21-14 in the final, and now sets his sights on the last 64 of the Spring Waterloo in Blackpool on Sunday.
