BOWLS:
STEWART Bentley (North Chadderton) had a ding-dong battle with Bob Nisbet (Nimble Nook) on his way to landing the Oldham Veterans League’s Farrow Cup.
Bentley, who had beaten Dougie Watts (Copster Park) 21-14 and Bob Price (Stanley Road) 21-14 to reach the final, defeated Nisbet 21-20 in a match which could have gone either way.
Nisbet progressed with finals-day victories over Dennis Hoyle (Tonge) 21-16 and John Owen (Higher Failsworth Park) 21-10.
THERE were plenty of Oldham-based players in the Middleton team which stormed to a 25-7 victory over Fylde in a Federation Of Crown Green Bowls Division Four match on Sunday.
Home team man-of-the match at North Chadderton was Graham Flint, who came in as a late substitute and won 21-12 after trailing 12-8.
Tonge’s Darren Wardle was Middleton’s man-of-the-match away from home for his 21-9 victory.
THE entry deadline for the 2011 Oldham Evening Chronicle Handicap has passed, The draw will be published on Friday.
