GOLF: WERNETH’S mixed foursomes team pulled off a fine 5-2 win at High Legh in the Archie Preston Trophy.
Captain Quentin Cartwright led from the front when he and lady vice-captain Fiona Dooley romped to a 6 and 5 success.
And other wins swiftly followed from vice-captain Lee Rowbotham and Glynis Jones (4&3), Paul Rowbotham and Brenda Martin (3&2), Adam and Gail Rowbotham (4&3) and John Yemm and Sheila Waterhouse (3&2).
There was more success for the Garden Suburb club when they won 4-3 at home to Manchester Alliance foursomes opponents Harwood.
Their winners were Lee Rowbotham and John Barlow (3 & 2), John Yemm and Dave Whittingham (4&3), Liam Dwayre and Pete Hickey (4&3) and Shaun Rattigan and Ron Bowden (5&3).
