GOLF: REIGNING champions Dukinfield ‘A’ have made a flying start to the defence of their Oldham and District League title.
They have won their three games so far, two of which have been away.
Dukinfield’s latest victory was a 6-2 success at struggling Oldham.
East Division rivals Werneth also claimed a prized away-day success with a 5-3 win at Ashton.
In the ‘B’ League, West Division there was a first triumph for new club Tunshill, who beat North Manchester 6-2 thanks to Jimmy O’Grady and Ric Holmes fighting back from four down with four to play for a half.
A 5-3 victory for Stamford ‘A’ against Brookdale ‘A’ has been changed to 7-1 by the league’s executive committee after Brookdale reported they had played an ineligible golfer.
They fielded a 17-year-old player in their winning pairing, but the minimum age to play in the league is 18.
