SIDELINED . . . Karen Greig will miss Northern Thunder’s bid for Superleague play-off glory.
NETBALL: OLDHAM’S Karen Greig has decided to call it day for this season — but is aiming for a comeback next term.
The 31-year-old captain of Northern Thunder ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament and also suffered a small fracture of the tibia in the match against rivals Hertfordshire Mavericks seven weeks ago.
The Thunder top-scorer said: “I had been toying with the idea of playing towards the end of the season. But I am now on the NHS waiting list for surgery and that could be another four or five months.
“I’m pain free and can train as normal, but the surgeon said that I should leave thinking about netball until after the operation.”
Despite such a serious injury, she has no plans to quit the game.
Greig said: “I’ve had injuries like this before and it’s not going to end my career.
“I’ll have the surgery and get fit for next season.”
