THREE fanatical football fans have finally released their eagerly-anticipated book about former players from Oldham’s various leagues.
David Ball, David Giblin and Tony Seel spent a year speaking to 115 stalwarts when putting together For The Love of the Game, Oldham’s Unsung Heroes (Or As Good as the Pros But Paid a Bit Less).
With mission accomplished, they are now looking for support.
Ball explained: “We need a local business or individual to kindly donate some money in order for us to order a supply of the books and sell them locally.
“Proceeds from the sales will go to a charity we are setting up in memory of Andy Ashworth, a local lad who died of cancer recently.
“W think it will be a football charity, and we hope to be able to send a team to the Junior World Cup in Hungary, either this year or in 2012.”
Meanwhile, anyone wanting to get their hands on a copy of the book can order it online by visiting www.lulu.com and typing in the title in the search engine.
Ball added: “Leafing through the book brings a sense of satisfaction. But the people we interviewed make it what it is and brought it to life.”
Anyone interested in helping the authors to order a supply can call Ball on (0161) 345 0753, or Steel on (0161) 6246976 or (0161) 652 2499.
