GIRL POWER . . . Suzy shows off her award.
NETBALL:
NORTHERN Thunder assistant coach Suzy Chapman was stunned to receive the England Netball Goalden Globe award for North-West coach of the year.
The modest 29-year-old has played a pivotal role in turning the club into FIAT Superleague play-off contenders since her arrival three seasons ago along with head coach Mike Greenwood.
Following several nominations from colleagues and players, she ticked all the boxes in the eyes of the England Netball panel, who run the annual event across the UK to reward volunteers like Suzy, who dedicate their spare time to the cause.
She received her plaque and certificate at the ceremony at Bury Town Hall, and will represent the region at the national awards, to be held in Leicester in September.
“I couldn’t believe I had won to be honest,” said Suzy, who works for Oldham Council’s Integrated Youth Service.
“In my category there were so many good coaches, some of whom are attached to clubs like Tameside and Oldham, who have been very successful this season.
“I did not expect this at all — I am extremely grateful and proud.
“It has been lovely receiving so many messages from people congratulating me.”
