DEATH RATTLE... Crompton’s Aqib Zulfiqar is bowled for 41 by Royton’s Chris Hutchinson.
CRICKET: WERNETH bounced back to top form with a superb Lake Garage CLL victory over high-flying Littleborough at the Coppice.
Boro arrived at the Coppice in second place, hot on the heels of championship favourites Norden.
But they left defeated, vanquished by 13 runs despite a fine knock of 79 from professional Clinton Perren.
After taking first guard, Werneth made a highly-respectable 218 for five, opening batsman Matt Taylor hitting 60, pro Hasnain Abbas 62 and Joe Taylor an unbeaten 41.
With the likes of Perren and Warron Williams in their line-up, Boro looked capable of chasing down that score, but Joe Taylor’s five for 41 and Mark Dronsfield’s five for 60 stopped them in their tracks and they were bowled out for 205.
ROYTON continued their winning run with a hard-fought, two-wicket victory over CROMPTON in a tense local derby at the Paddock.
The hosts seems to have the game at their mercy when they restricted Crompton to 127 for eight, Aqib Zulfiqar hitting 41 and Chris Hutchinson taking four for 10.
That total seemed to be an easy one for Royton to surpass, but Crompton made them fight all the way, paid man Fida Hussain taking three for 15 as the home side limped to 128 for eight.
OLDHAM were comprehensively outpointed at Clifton.
They were skittled for 83 and were powerless to prevent their hosts from reaching 84 for two, Andy Griffiths hitting 41.
