GOLF: THE cream of the county’s golfers will converge on Manchester Golf Club, Middleton, on Friday for the Lancashire Amateur Championship.
A high-class turn-out of 120 title hopefuls will play 18 holes on Friday and Saturday.
The field will then be cut to the leading 40 golfers plus ties, and they will play 36 holes on Sunday to decide the winner.
Among the local interest in the tournament is teenager Jack Suttie. The 18-year-old recently equalled the Werneth course record with a sparkling 61, which featured eight birdies and one bogey.
Also gunning for glory are Crompton and Royton pair Jordan Flint and Andrew Clarke.
The trio will face a tough challenge against rivals who play some of the best courses — Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham and St Anne’s to name but two — in the world.
The action gets under way at 7.30am on each day.
