Alice Travis — England call-up
NETBALL: ALICE Travis has been tipped for big things after netting an England call-up.
The 15-year-old Oldham Hulme Grammar School student is in for a special summer when she joins up with the national side’s under-17s netball excel squad for a training camp in Loughborough.
And Jo Knighton, head of PE at the school, believes her young charge will make a big impact at the four-day get-together in July.
“Alice is extremely dedicated, she trains hard and is committed to her ambition to one day play for England’s senior team,” said Jo.
“This is the first step — there are great things to come from Alice.
“She has already been the shooter on two of our sides which won national competitions — at under-14s level last year when we became National Schools’ Championships title holders, and this year when the under-16s clinched the same honour.”
Jo insists Alice is not one to rest on her laurels, despite the latest achievement.
“She has already organised twice weekly training in preparation for next year’s tournaments, which will keep us all on our toes,” added Jo.
