Cricket: DELPH continue their Heavy Woollen Cup adventure on Sunday when they entertain Gomersal in the third round.

Grant Jones’ men made a huge statement of intent in their quest for silverware by knocking out holders Wrenthorpe at the first hurdle.

And they saw off Golcar in the second round courtesy of a five-wicket win, in which Bilal Khiljee top-scored with 58.

Now Yorkshire outfit Gomersal stand in their way of progression to the next stage of the tournament.

League action is on the agenda first though. Delph, currently second in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership, travel to Scholes tomorrow looking to close the gap on leaders Honley.

It comes hot on the heels of a victory against Marsden and the superb triumph over Elland, who were knocked off the summit as a result.

Meanwhile, Micklehurst hit the road to Linthwaite in the Cedar Court Conference, the same team they beat last time out.

The four-wicket success was the second win of the campaign for Jonny Forrester’s men, and they will be hoping a repeat performance can push them further up the table.

The Castle Lane outfit are currently sixth in the eight-team division, two points better off than basement boys Kirkheaton and Lascelles Hall — their only other victims this term.

WOODHOUSES have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One when they make their way to Roe Green.
Mike Cassidy’s side are three points clear of second-placed Prestwich, having won seven out of their first eight games.

Tomorrow’s opponents pose a threat to Woodhouses’ fine run of form — they occupy fifth position in the table.
