BOWLS
DESPITE impressive victories for five local players, Greater Manchester women lost by 58 chalks to Cheshire in their County Championship fixture.

Diane Bowler (Oldham RU) hit back from 15-6 down to win at the home venue of Royton Cricket Club.

And there were also successes for Delph’s Rachel Fish (21-15) and Karen Houlston (21-17), Werneth’s Michelle Renshaw (21-12) and Springbank’s Chris Kewley (21-15).

Manchester won by 10 chalks at home, but the away team struggled in Warrington and slumped to a 68-chalks defeat.

GREATER Manchester men had a better result against Lancashire, but they will be unhappy with the showing of the home team.

Only six of the 12 players were successful at Springhead, leaving the away team to pull the match out of the fire with seven winners from 12 jacks at Leigh Bowling Club.

Waterloo and Taunton’s Chris Heyes was the home man-of-the-match for Lancashire, while Nimble Nook’s Gary Ellis clinched the away award.
