High-fives for Werneth ‘B’ in away joy

HOME advantage is beginning to tell as the greens get quicker in the Oldham and District Golf League.
The only away winners in week four were Werneth ‘B’, who claimed a 5-3 success at Oldham in their ‘B’ League East Division clash.
That kept the Garden Suburb team in contact with leaders Blackley — one of five clubs to record 8-0 whitewash home wins.
It was 7-1 for ‘A’ League East Division high-flyers Dukinfield against Blackley — the only club with a 100-per-cent record — and the top three in that division were all home winners with Werneth shutting out Oldham, and Crompton and Royton captain Gary Melling and Dave Hewitt making a birdie at the last for a half to beat Ashton 7-1.
Werneth ‘C’ have taken over the fixtures of Tunshill ‘B’, who resigned from the league last week.
