Webb’s Medlock magic

ANGLING
DARREN Webb won the first of two Medlock Bridge AC open matches on the Park Lake, tempting 12lb 13oz of roach and chub with hemp and caster.
Runner-up Fred Prudham caught 10lb 5oz of two tench, chub and roach on maggot.
Bill Brierley’s roach and chub weighed 10lb 4oz and earned him third position.
The second contest saw Peter Cuniffe take top spot with a 19lb 2oz net comprising roach, skimmers and chub.
Bob Harrison was second thanks to a 14lb 8oz net containing a fair few skimmers and chub, although he must have rued the two big tench he lost.
Third-placed Steve Hall used his favoured chopped worm and caster method to tempt 11lb 12oz of skimmers, roach and chub.
MICK Diskin clinched victory in the Monarch AC members match, fished on the club water.
He took top honours with a 30lb 7oz catch made up of ide, chub and roach.
It beat Dave White’s 26lb of carp, roach and ide, and Dave Ireland’s 21lb 7oz net, containing skimmers, ide and roach.
OLDHAM Central AC held their contest on Cudmore Fishery, where Malc Taylor triumphed courtesy of a 34lb 8oz catch made up of carp, taken on pellet and corn.
Dave Timmins was next — his feeder and pellet accounted for 25lb 8oz of small carp.
In third, Jess Isaacs took carp which added up to 23lb 12oz.
GIDEON Orr topped the Diggle AC match on Tanners Dam thanks to an 18lb 8oz bag, which included a 12lb 12oz carp.
Martin Taylor’s 10lb 2oz — mainly skimmers and roach — earned the runners-up berth, and Mick Henshall was third, after catching 8lb 6oz of skimmers and silvers.
A BUSY time at Todmorden AS got under way with a club match at Kings Pool in Wolverhampton, where Pete Balmforth led the way courtesy of carp weighing 49lb 4oz.
Paul Bleakley’s almost identical catch fell just 14oz short, while Rob McEndry finished third with 45lb 12oz of carp.
The club followed up with a trophy contest on Townhouse Fishery, where Pete Mottram won with seven carp adding up to 36lb 4oz.
Tom Barlow’s ide and roach hit the 34lb mark, and Stan Buckley took third position with 27lb 8oz of carp.
The midweek contest saw Steve Mottram head the field after taking 32lb of ide on pole, worm and caster.
Frank Szakaley followed on 20lb 10oz of pellet-tempted carp, which beat Craig Butterworth and Jake Nightingale into third, after the pair tied on 13lb 10oz.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Pellet for chub, carp and barbel.
Rochdale Canal – Always good for a few fish with red maggot, caster or bread the baits to use.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Paste for carp fished just a foot from the bank. Caster fished up in the water for plenty of ide.
Park Lake – Pole, maggot, caster and pellet all catching good nets of roach and chub with the odd skimmer.
