Shaw in cruise control

ALEX PETERS . . . top score of 80 for Greenfield.
CRICKET: SHAW kept up the pressure on Saddleworth and District Cricket League pacesetters Uppermill with a fourth win on the spin.
It was a comfortable afternoon’s work for Andy Young’s men, who limited Moorside to 54 for seven in a match reduced to 28 over per side because of rain. Rick Harrington claimed four for 24.
Shaw lost one wicket in reply as they coasted to an emphatic victory at Turf Pit Lane.
Heyside are hot on their heels in third spot.
But in stark contrast to Shaw’s win, Nick Campbell’s side had to dig deep to see off Greenfield at Ladhill Lane.
Replying to the hosts’ total of 230 — Alex Peters top-scored with a fine 80 — Heyside won by one wicket, with South African professional Roelof Hugo keeping a cool a head to steer them home with 97 not out.
Fourth-placed Glodwick returned to winning ways — they had lost their previous two league games — against Austerlands.
Atif Khan weighed in with a useful 45 to lift the Warren Lane outfit to a respectable 195 for six.
Austerlands were dismissed for 163 and are now without a win in the last five games.
Moorside’s defeat allowed Hollinwood to climb off the bottom of the table after an eight-wicket win at Stayley.
The visitors, who were no match for Bamford Fieldhouse seven days earlier, put themselves in pole position after reducing the home side to 96 all out.
S Naveer was a man in a rush as he scored an unbeaten 79 in Hollinwood’s reply.
After losing their first three games of the campaign, Saddleworth have now won seven out of eight in all competitions and are up to fifth in the standings.
Friarmere were their latest victims at West View.
Restricted to 180 for eight — Australian pro Josh Butler picked up five of the wickets for 63 runs — Saddleworth then put the shackles on their hosts, who managed 151 for eight.
