CRICKET: WERNETH earned derby-day bragging rights with a hard-fought Lake Garage CLL victory over Crompton at the Coppice.
Taking first guard, Andy Walker's men reached a respectable 201 all out thanks to Matt Taylor's 45, professional Hasnain Abbas's 39 and a vital 33 down the order from Chris Machin.
Danny Taylor, who had taken three for 48, led the Crompton reply with 49, but the visitors finally succumbed for 192 - nine runs short of the Werneth total.
Abbas was the main wicket-taker for Werneth with a crucial five for 40.
OLDHAM had high hopes of victory at Heywood, but ran into a firestorm in the shape of home professional Andrea Agathangelou.
Lancashire's second-team captain smashed 132 and Dale Latham hit 68 as Heywood racked up 292 for seven.
And dispirited Oldham were never in the hunt, slumping to a dismal 76 all out.
