GOLF: WERNETH ‘A’ lead the way at the halfway stage of the Oldham and District Golf League East Division after a commendable 4-4 draw at Crompton and Royton.
And Mark Abbott’s side might even have forced a win had opposition captain Gary Melling and Scott O’Leary not come back from two down with seven to play to win two and one.
That result propelled the Garden Suburbs team to the top after leaders Dukinfield lost their first game of the season in spectacular fashion, 8-0 at Ashton.
In the West Division, Saddleworth ‘A’ are still without a win after they cruelly lost three of the four games at Fairfield by a single hole.
Oldham ‘A’ captain Paul Pattinson had a hole-in-one when he knocked in a seven-iron at the 155-yard fifth on the way to a last-hole win in a 4-4 draw at home to Blackley.
